Wrapped writings
I wrap the strands of words around a string. The drill helps me to wrap the thoughts, to create the codes of my own text. As I dye, spread and wrap I remember Ligia’s Chumbes, the infinite girdle that covers her belly, the writing that protects her womb. Chumbear is to hug with the heart, a Chumbe is a traditional textile piece of the Inga Camëntsá ethnic groups in Colombia.
It is a textile and it is a text, it is fiber that is woven in the guanga loom, it is a symbol, it is woman, it is crop, it is manifesto. It is a belt that can measure more than 5 meters long, in which, through a symbology, daily life and traditional knowledge are narrated.
I weave a textile to make my own string, my own text. I wrap the strands that are my codes, I weave fibers with the intention to tell, to record, to let someone know. I thread, I wrap, I tie, I roll, I write, again and again.
