My name is Verónica,

I am a Colombian textile designer and material researcher.

My practice moves across fiber, color, and textile construction, understanding textiles as living archives of memory and cultural knowledge. I work through material sensitivity and textile anthropology, approaching weaving, dyeing, knitting, and embroidery as ways of thinking, methods to explore the relationships between bodies, landscapes, and times.

I studied Communication and Product Design at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a minor in textiles, and later completed a Master’s degree in Textiles: From Farm to Fabric to Fashion at Polimoda in Florence.

My research extends across geographies, from studying natural dyes in Mexico to exploring ancient textile tools through experimental archaeology in South Africa. These experiences inform my understanding of textiles as complex socio-ecological structures connecting land, heritage, and fiber.

Alongside my practice, I teach and lead workshops internationally on weaving, natural dyes, and textile design, and have presented my work in academic and cultural institutions across Colombia, Mexico, South Africa, and Europe. Writing also forms part of my practice, through essays and material diaries I connect making with critical reflection.

To study textiles is to explore the human worlds they inhabit. Textiles are transformative tools for social change — and the future must be handmade.

I believe in textiles, tenderness, and the joy of making

My grandmother, Mariela, was herself a knitter and embroiderer. Skeins of yarn were part of the quiet landscape of my childhood, hidden inside cookie tins that held buttons and needles rather than sweets. In this sense, my work both looks inwards and honours my female genealogy, while looking outwards at the ecological, cultural, and historical dimensions rooted in textile practices, weaving together personal and collective forms of knowledge.
